We have reviewed the consultationwill review your feedback and publishedprepare a consultation report, which we expect to make publicly available in early 2017. No personal details will be included in the Consultation on Options Report . The preferred options for the Awakino Tunnel bypass Project and SH3 Safety and resilience improvements Project, along with the next steps for the Mt Messenger bypass Project have been announced.report.
We expect to announce the preferred options and begin design in the New Year before preparing and lodging resource consents.
Community Consultation on Options –- 21 November 2016 to 6 January 2017
We have been developing options for the bypass projects at Mt Messenger and Awakino Tunnel, along with other safety and resilience improvements for the 58 km stretch of State Highway 3 from the Awakino Gorge to Mount Messenger.
While our investigations are continuing we would like to share the proposals with you.

What we are proposing
There are three projects making up the Awakino Gorge to Mt Messenger Programme.
- Awakino Tunnel bypass Project has two proposed route options.
- Mt Messenger bypass Project has three proposed route options.
- SH3 Improvements Project has a two-stage approach for safety and resilience improvements.
