Guide to assessing historic heritage effects for state highway projects

The  Historic heritage impact assessment guide for state highway projects describes the approach for assessing the effects of state highway projects on historic heritage and outlines the minimum requirements for each phase of project development and delivery.

Use this guide if your project or work has the potential to affect historic heritage buildings, places, items or values. It is particularly important to refer to this guide if an ESR Screen completed for your work has indicated there are structures, places or features within 100 metres of your work.

Minimum standard Z/22 accidental discovery procedures

The Minimum standard Z/22 accidental discovery procedures  sets out the procedures to be followed if an archaeological site, koiwi (human remains) or taonga (precious object) are accidentally discovered during investigation, construction or maintenance of the state highway network. These procedures reflect the minimum requirements in accordance with statutory obligations under the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act 2014 (external link) and the Protected Objects Act 1975 (external link). Contract documentation should include this standard in accordance with the Agency’s State Highway Proforma Manual 031 for any areas where an archaeological authority has not been granted.
