Wellington region maintenance programme

Information about roadworks in the Wellington-Kāpiti region

Well maintained roads are an important part of keeping people safe.  While we aim to do this work with as little disruption as possible, we know that roadworks can be inconvenient.  Thanks for your patience and understanding while we do this important work.

Please drive carefully through work sites and stick to the temporary speed limits.  If you’re driving around the Wellington region, roadworks on the state highway network may affect your travel plans.

Below is a quick outline of the major works planned for the coming week from Sunday 20 November 2016 .  We’ll keep you posted on future works and have regular updates on local radio stations.

 

Wednesday night, 23 November

Road closure SH58 Paremata Road :

  • From Paremata to Postgate roundabouts closed for emergency road repairs in area affected by slips last week
  • Closed for up to 5 hours from 10pm
  • Traffic controllers will guide residents through

Thursday night, 24 November

Mt Victoria Tunnel full tunnel closure from 9pm to 5.30am for:

  • Sewer pipeline replacement near Paterson Street traffic lights
  • Tunnel camera recalibrations

Traffic should use alternate routes:

  • Via Aotea Quay around the harbour bays
  • Via Newtown to Constable Street

Pedestrians and cyclists:

  • The path through the tunnel remains OPEN

Northbound lane closures through the tunnel with diversions in place.

Sewer works

Sunday to Wednesday night

Wellington Road
From Wellington Road to Kilbirnie Crescent, altered lane layout and temporary speed limit for UFB installation works.

UFB installation work

Sunday to Thursday night

Paekakariki
Traffic will be controlled by stop/go to allow crews to repair pot holes in the road surface.

Pot hole repairs

Tuesday to Wednesday night

Terrace off ramp
Lane closure to allow crews to replace a sewer line.

Sewer repairs

Thursday

Pukerua Bay
Traffic will be controlled by stop/go for resurfacing works.  Allow extra time for your journey.

Resurfacing

Monday to Thursday night

State Highway 2

Location

Type of work

Start date

Kaitoke
Traffic will be controlled by stop/go while crews install an electronic sign board by Dews Construction yard.

Electronic sign board installation

Monday to Thursday

Greytown - fruitstalls
Traffic will be controlled by stop/go early Monday while crews chip seal the highway just north of Greytown. Following that, traffic follows lanes marked by cones.

State Highway 58

Location

Haywards/Pauatahanui
Multiple work sites to clear drains, debris and slips from last week’s flooding.  Please stick to the temporary speed limit and take extra care driving through work sites.

Flood repair works

Monday to Friday

NOTE: If bad weather should strike, work will be postponed to the next suitable night.
